Information sent on behalf of Humberside Police

A Bogus caller has been reported in your
neighbourhood.

Bogus Callers

Dear Resident

Due to a slight increase in bogus callers Humberside Police would like to remind residents to be vigilant. Following these steps will help keep you and your property safe:-

Keep front and back doors locked (with keys taken out), even if you are home.
Stop and think if anyone is expected.
Look through a spy hole or window to identify the caller.
Put the door chain or door bar on first before opening the door, and keep it on whilst talking to the caller.
Check their identity card carefully even if the caller has a pre-arranged appointment (close the door whilst doing this)
Look up the phone number of who the caller represents in the phone directory; ring to verify the caller`s identity and do not use a phone number on the identity card as this may be fake.
Never ever agree to any work from a doorstep caller.
Do not let anybody in to your property for any reason however plausible their excuse to come in.
IF IN DOUBT KEEP THE CALLER OUT.

Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

Kind regards, Pickering Team, PC Kelly Edgar, PCSO Ian Ferguson
and PCSO Laura Armstrong.
