Crime Update

Dear Resident

Your local Community Policing team have been out and about on Murrayfield Road in the past two weeks asking residents to participate in our Humber Talking survey and signing them up to My Community Alert. This is the largest Police messaging system in the UK and is used by 24 Police Forces. Welcome to the new subscribers.

Each month the Community Policing team will send out a message relating to the area, as well as this you will receive alerts if there has been any offences or incidents of note throughout the month.

One of the main issues people have been concerned about during the Humber Talking survey are the recent burglaries in the area. The Bricknell ward did suffer a spike in burglary offences in January 2021, but to date in February Humberside Police have only recorded 1 burglary to a commercial property in the area and 1 attempt burglary to another commercial property.

Residents are reminded to follow the below crime prevention advice;

Secure your gardens with a fence and lockable gates
Fix lightweight trellis and spiky planting to the top of fences to help prevent climbing
Don't let bushes grow large enough to hide burglars from view
Don't leave tools or ladders in the garden
Fit a dusk to dawn constant garden light and add a motion sensor light to warn you of any intruders
Keep your house and shed/garage doors locked using quality insurance graded locks and consider CCTV
Keep windows either locked shut or locked in a vented position
Don't leave keys in locks or on display for a burglar to see and use
Make your home appear occupied. Consider the use of timer switches to turn on lights
Don't leave valuables on view through windows, which may tempt a thief
Look out for your neighbour's property, if anyone appears suspicious in the area phone 101.

To assist us in identifying stolen property please consider property marking high value items using Smartwater or UV pens. You are also advised to register property at which is a free on-line property register used by police forces nationwide to reunite stolen goods to their owners. All you have to do is register on line and then upload properties, electrical items and serial numbers.

Visit the Humberside Police website for more crime prevention advice and for more information on how to keep yourself and your property safe.
