Possible Rogue Trader in your area

Alert message sent 15/09/2020 09:46:00

Information sent on behalf of Humberside Police

Suspicious circumstances reported in your area

Dear Resident,

There has recently been a report of a potential Rogue Trader in your area.  A male described as a white male, late 40s , 5ft 9, skinny build, short grey hair, glasses, spoke with an Irish accent, wearing a blue polo shirt (no logos), dark blue combat trousers, driving a small, white old van with ladders on the top cold called at an address on Elliston Street and pointed out to the occupant that her flashing on her roof need fixing.

On this occasion no agreement was made and the male left the area.

Please remember that criminals will employ a range of tactics to target vulnerable people. This includes looking for homes with tired exteriors, where elderly relatives are more likely to live.

Some of these types of people work together by discreetly marking the pavement outside the houses of those recently scammed, or circulating a ‘suckers’ lists on the black market.  Please be aware of things like this.

It’s not just someone knocking on the door that you should be cautious of - we would suggest taking leaflets put through your letterbox with a pinch of salt, too. This is another way in which cowboy traders try to reel you in, making misleading or false claims and using scare tactics, particularly around home security.

If you do need a tradesman for any reason it's best that one is recommended by word of mouth.  If this is not possible, the charity Age UK have a handy person service that can assist with certain jobs -
they can be contacted on 0800 678 1602.

Thank you
