Drug Dealing

Alert message sent 04/07/2020 11:42:00

Information sent on behalf of Humberside Police

Can you help?

Dear Resident of Sidney Sussex,

This message specifically relates to those living on Lovett Street between Brereton Avenue and Freeston Street.

We believe there is drug activity and potentially dealing in your neighbourhood.  To deal with those suspected we need your help to gather evidence to prevent this from continuing.

Below are some guidelines which are an effective way you can help put a stop to drug dealing in your neighbourhood.

Talk to your neighbours and other property owners in the area. It will be easier to identify, stop, and prevent drug activity in your neighbourhood if you work together. Your neighbours may have noticed things you haven’t, and vice versa.

Watch for suspicious activity. If you suspect that there is drug dealing going on in your neighbourhood, look for warning signs. Visitors at strange hours, blocked-up windows, and odd smells may be signs of drug activity.
Excessive foot traffic to and from a house and loitering may be signs that illicit activity is occurring.
Another suspicious pattern is the presence of many cars that stop at the house for a short period of time and then leave.

Record as much detail as you can. Always stay safe and don’t approach potential dealers.  If you observe suspicious traffic activity, take notes of vehicle registrations, car models, colours, and approximate times of visits.

Keep an eye out for drug paraphernalia. Surprisingly, people can be careless about concealing drug paraphernalia such as hypodermic needles and pipes.

Contact the police. You can choose to remain anonymous if you will feel safer that way.  You can ring CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 and anonymously give information.
You can also ring the 101 Non Emergency number to report an issue directly to the police.
If you believe the Police are needed in an Emergency ring 999.

Thank you.
