Advice for those affected by flooding

Alert message sent 15/11/2019 15:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Humberside Fire & Rescue

After a challenging 24 hours for homeowners, emergency services and agency partners alike, the region is beginning to recover as further rain has held off since around midnight.

Local authorities, water companies and the Environment Agency still have large numbers of staff across both sides of the Humber assessing water levels in streams, drains and rivers.

Whilst Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has returned to something approaching normality, there are still staff and assets helping the recovery operation and are ready to stand back up should there be increased rainfall into and over the weekend.

The number of properties which flooded in our area is in the dozens rather than the hundreds, but the impact of even a few inches of water in a home or business can be devastating for those affected.

Anyone affected by flooding can access advice by clicking here

Flood water can contain many hazards, so please don't enter standing water (however deep) as bacteria from sewers and the like may be mixed up with rainwater or river water.

Please drive to the conditions and respect any road closures - attempting to drive through flood water puts yourself, local homes (affected by a bow wave) and any staff working in the area at increased risk.
