Crime Prevention Advice

Residents across Holderness are being warned about Generator sellers using pushy tactics.

Humberside Police’s Holderness Neighbourhood team has issued alerts following reports of suspicious activity during the last few days.

In the Holderness area there have been alerts about sellers who have been using pushy tactics to get people to buy their goods. Whilst not illegal, Trading Standards would not recommend people buy goods in this way.

There have been reports of traders in transit style vans visiting supermarket car parks operating across the county trying to sell boxed generators, chainsaws and power washers to people especially targeting them whilst they are putting their shopping in the vehicle.

Darren Bainton, Neighbourhood Police Officer for Holderness, said: "We've had several alerts relating to this type of sellers.

"These include traders using pushy sales tactics, or recommending power tools at a reduced price that just isn't needed by the shopper.

"You should never agree to buy anything offered by cold calling traders, and always do your research before buying goods and services.

"Anyone wanting further help and advice should contact East Riding of Yorkshire trading standards who will be happy to help."

To find a trader in your area, visit: or call 0303 333 1111.

The Trading Standards team can be contacted via the Citizen's Advice helpline - 03454 04 05 06.
