Dear resident,
Over the past month, as the nights start to creep in earlier, we have been increasing our patrol focus on the rural areas of Burton and Winterton ward. This is a preemptive move based on trends and theories as to why crimes happen where they do. This approach is seldom seen in urban environments, simply because high-population towns or cities have a constant flow of intelligence and information; that's precisely why you may notice us in places like Winterton more often than you would in the more rural areas. This difference in information, however, can sometimes make the lesser heard-from areas feel under-policed, or forgotten.
We appreciate that nowadays, in a modern society, there are multiple ways to reach those who can help. For the police, we have the long-standing 999 emergency line and 101 non-emergency line, online reporting and our new online chatbot, Bobbi. However, for those who don't regularly use technology, this can be daunting or difficult. For that reason, your local policing team have worked with the Winteringham Village Hall to provide a Police mailbox, which you can use to send letters, forms or surveys to us. This mailbox will be monitored and collected from on a regular basis. You will find this mailbox on the wall at the entrance of the village hall on Fronst Close.
To help further support reporting and communication between public and police, your local policing team have also set up a series of drop-in sessions at the village hall, where we will be present and available for anybody to pop in, have a chat and meet us properly. These will be happening every 3 weeks (As we host these all over the ward area) at 11:30am - 1:30pm, with the next few dates below: We hope that by doing so, we can allow everybody equal opportunity to reach out to their officers, raise concerns and foster a trustful, traditional relationship with your local policing team.
