Don't leave burglars ‘Home Alone’ this Christmas |
||
|
Good evening local residents, from Myself, PC Andy and PCSO's Emma and Jenny we wish to pass on our thanks and festive good wishes- I hope all have a lovely Christmas. We will all have some welcome time off with our family and friends throughout the next week at different times to ensure our service is not effected. I wish to assure you that you will still continue to be looked after by our colleagues across the Grimsby East Community Neighbourhood Policing team who will still be working over the festive period alongside our colleagues from specialist units including Response, Roads Policing, Dog and Armed Policing units.
As you probably know the festive season is upon us, and we would like it to be full of joy, not unwanted visitors like the ‘Wet Bandits’. Christmas time is often a key time for burglaries, with many houses full of new and valuable presents. Don’t alert potential burglars by leaving present packaging outside – put it all in your recycling box, out of sight. I would advise basic some crime prevention measures to reduce the chances of becoming victim of a burglary especially if you are away from your property during this festive/new year period. If you are stuck on what to spend any left over or gifted money by considering target hardening your property with items such as CCTV, Locks or Defensive Planting which can be purchased online or at a local store. Helpful tips to keep your home secure this Christmas-Secure all windows and doors and keep them locked. Keep presents away from windows where they can be seen by people passing by. Dispose of packaging carefully. Empty boxes and bins full of packaging are a perfect advert for burglars. If these do not fit in the bin consider storing inside until you can fit them in or take them to a nearby recycling centre or tip. Don’t leave keys, money or valuables on windowsills or near the windows/doors. Keep presents and valuables secure; don’t store them in your car, shed or garage unless they can be locked up and secured. Make use of free and secure registration websites such as Immobilise to register new items of value such as computers, phones and laptops. If you have an alarm, test it to make sure it’s working correctly and activate this when you are not home. Don’t post your location on social media; it may alert potential burglars that your home is empty. Make your home look occupied by using timer switches on your lights and radios. If you don't have them, ask a trusted neighbour/friend to keep an eye on your home and draw your curtains if you are away. Join your local Neighbourhood Watch group / My Community Alert.
Finally, please continue to report any crimes, information or queries via telephone 101, 999, or via our website. This will continue to be dealt with accordingly by an allocated officer in a timely manner (although this may not always be Myself, Andy, Emma or Jenny).
Thank you all once again, have a Good Christmas! PC Dan Mosley. | ||
