Hull Uni students receive training session on modern slavery |
||
Detective Sergeant Richard Kirk from our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (MSHT) team visited University of Hull to deliver training to students on topics including modern slavery, criminal and sexual exploitation, the differences between trafficking and smuggling, and how to spot the signs of these kind of crimes. Alongside their operational activity, the dedicated MSHT team who sits within our Protecting Vulnerable People Unit (PVP) also provide specialist training, support, and guidance not only to their own peers and partner agencies, but also to young people to help them understand the complex issues around these crimes in more detail. Working with young people is especially crucial in raising awareness and understanding around how crimes of this nature can be tackled from all angles within our communities, and beyond. Speaking about the training session, DS Kirk said: “Working with young people and educating them on modern slavery and human trafficking – often crimes that go unseen and unnoticed in our communities – is absolutely pivotal and the more people we can work with, the more reports and information we will receive to help build the bigger picture around offending and ultimately protect the most vulnerable people within our communities. Find out more and hear from Criminology Lecturer at University of Hull about the importance of training.
