E-Scooters

One of the key concerns you have raised with us during engagement, Humber Talking and via direct communication is the misuse of e-scooters.

Humberside Police address e-scooters and other similarly powered transporters by means of a Warning Notice on the first occasion and seizure and prosecution on the second.

However, we are still seeing them being used on the public highway with reckless abandon in many cases, and often by young children who have no concept of roadcraft, nor of the danger they face and the consequences.

The riding of privately owned e-scooters and personal tranporters is illegal on roads, pavements, cycle ways and any other public place. They are classed as motor vehicles and require a driving licence, insurance and vehicle excise licence to be ridden on a road or public place. Failure to abide by the law regarding this will ultimately result in 6 points being added to your licence, and a £300 fine imposed. The vehicle will also be seized.

We urge you not to buy them if you have nowhere private to use them, as public use is prohibited by law. They are also potentially extremely dangerous in the wrong/untrained hands, and one of our core responsibilities as Police is preservation and protection of life. So in addition to asking you to abide by the law regarding these vehicles, we also recommend that these vehicles are not purchased for children.
