Increase in theft of motor vehicles

Dear Resident

We are currently seeing an increase in theft of motor vehicles in your area.

With the current crime statistics, we are seeing a pattern of vans being targeted, the vans are being stolen, not only for the tools within them, but also for the van itself.

With an increase in digital technology, offenders are able to bypass security systems on vehicles, allowing the vehicle to be driven away.

The good news is there are some easy hints and tips that you can implement that will reduce the risk of your vehicle being stolen.

  • Ensure you close all the windows, and lock all the doors (If you are in a rush, it is easy to forget to do this)
  • Fit a secured by design approved steering wheel lock.
  • If you have a ‘work van’, remove tools from it, or park it in a secure location.
  • Close and lock gates, using a gold standard sold secure padlock.
  • Fit bollards that would prevent the vehicle moving.
  • Fit a CCTV camera that will alert you if movement is picked up.
  • Consider fitting a tracker to the vehicle.
  • Consider using ‘There are no tools left in this vehicle overnight’ signs.
  • If you are unable to park on a drive, park in an area where there are streetlights.
  • If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, inform the Police.
  •
