Increase in theft of tools from vans in your area

Dear Resident

We are currently seeing an increase in theft from motor vehicles in your area, where tools are being stolen from vans during the daytime.

Most offenders who steal items from vehicles are opportunists, so they will walk down streets looking into vehicles and trying door handles, until they either see something in a vehicle, or they locate an unlocked vehicle door.

The good news is there are some easy hints and tips that you can implement that will reduce the risk of your vehicle being broken in to.

  • Ensure you close all the windows, and lock all the doors, even if you are working close by.
  • Make sure any alarm system is working.
  • Consider additional locks on the doors, as standard locks can be easily breached.
  • Don't leave tools on show if you are leaving your van unattended.
  • Park the van in a secured location if you are able to.
  • Park your van where it can be seen, so anyone approaching it, will also be seen.
  • Consider using ‘There are no tools left in this vehicle’ signs.
  • Consider property marking your tools, so if they are stolen, they can be identified.
  • Use signage to warn that tools have been marked.
  • If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, inform the Police.
  •
